Deadline: 25 Apr 2023 23:59

Description

ABOUT PIL! CRESCENDO Gender equality is a fundamental human right. Nonetheless, women and gender minorities remain largely invisible in the music ecosystem. As a response to such imbalances, in 2020, JMI created the pilot project “Play it LOUD!” (PIL!) and now follows up on its results with "PIL! Crescendo"... to "gradually get louder” (crescendo)! The aim is to raise awareness, multiply knowledge, and train key stakeholders in the youth & music sector both at the local, national, and European levels. Hundreds of professionals & young musicians across Europe will be trained to tackle gender stereotypes and expected gendered roles with an intersectional lens, to create safe and inclusive spaces for youth creative expression through a norm-critical pedagogy, and therefore provide equal chances and opportunities to all young women and under-represented youth. The SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES are: (SO1) To amplify the voices of young girls and underrepresented youth through engagement in music-making and free creative expression (SO2) To enhance the meaningful participation of underrepresented youth (in particular girls and non-binary young people) by promoting their creativity and their freedom of expression, as well as building their personal and professional competences (SO3) To raise awareness on gender mainstreaming and equity among key stakeholders in the European youth & music sector and young musicians, with a focus on tackling gender stereotypes (including gender roles and expected “gendered” behaviour), increasing representation and role models. (SO4) To build the capacities of relevant professionals working with youth & music (music teachers, youth workers, cultural organizers and facilitators, sector-specific decision-makers, staff and volunteers of youth & music organizations), with a focus on the Play it Loud! norm-critical pedagogy and on building inclusive safe spaces for the free creative expression of young women and gender minorities. The key methodologies and approaches to be applied throughout the project are based on the Play it Loud! Handbook, and should include participatory, non-formal and peer-to-peer learning; innovative design thinking and 5D appreciation methods; youth-led, youth-centred and needs-based approaches; human-rights-based perspectives.
